How and why did you get into the design Industry? Where did you study, etc?
I have always wanted to be an interior designer. When I was young I was inspired by art history and constantly going to auctions, antique stores and museums with my mom. I studied in Boston and New York.

How would you describe your design style? How varied are your designs? Do you have a signature touch with your designs?
My signature aesthetic is Raw and Refined – always an element of natural, rich textures such as wood and stones, a mix of contemporary and vintage – something old with something new. I want to create a sense of adventure and tell a story.

What do you love about being a designer? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Inspiration is everywhere. I am constantly snapping photos on the go for my lifestyle blog myvibemylife. The tension of masculine and feminine elements inspires me – juxtaposing pieces from different eras in history or genres of style. I want to curate spaces steeped in a sense of history that still feel innovative, new and relevant.

What are some of your most popular designs/projects? Tell us a bit about some of your designs/projects and what you love about them. What’s your favourite and why?
I truly do not have a favorite project. My clients are so diverse. They are have a distinctive voice – my job is really about running their vision through my filter. I love the collaborative experience. The projects in which the clients are heavily involved and have a specific vision to be realized are the most fun.

What colours, textures and furniture pieces do you love the most?
I am really feeling tweeds right now. The texture is so rich. It is sophisticated and classic but unexpected in the right setting. I work with mixed metals often. Brass brings warmth and depth to a space. I like to ground brighter colors with something more tough – for example gunmetal can make a soft pink or a vibrant orange seem less precious.

What is your philosophy on design and life?
Take risks. Taking risks and experimenting is the only way to grow. Seek out new inspiration, educate your eye and stay curious. Love color – living without color is like living without love.

What are your design dreams/goals?
I am living my dream. It is such a pleasure to go to work every day and immerse myself in what I love. The crosspollination at my studio inspires me every day. We have so many disciplines under one roof – from jewelry to bespoke furniture to designing a china pattern or wedding invitation.

In your opinion, which will be the top trends in interior design for 2014?
Metallics- although I would not consider them a trend necessarily. I have a long standing love of metal. I have never been one to advocate trends in interior design. A room is meant to last beyond a season. It is important to invest in pieces that mean something to you. Fads will come and go. If you surround your things with thoughtful pieces that have a soul and distinctive voice – that style is eternal.
