The transformation of the Miami Design District into the ultimate destination for cutting-edge fashion, art, design and culture continues. Construction on Phase III of development will be completed by the end of 2016. Among the highlights is the extension of the pedestrian Paseo Ponti north to 41st Street, anchored by Paradise Plaza. The new art-filled plaza will feature retail buildings designed by Daly Genik, Freeland Buck, Gilliland, Johnston Marklee and MOS as well as destination restaurants like chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s ABC Kitchen, and L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon.
More luxury and fashion brands will join the ranks of Bulgari, Céline, Cartier, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, Tiffany & Co., Valentino, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Harry Winston who are already established in the neighborhood.
The new Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA) building by Spanish architects Aranguren & Gallegos will be located on 41st Street and will join the Design District’s vibrant cultural offerings including the de la Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space, and the public art and design installations by John Baldessari, The Buckminster Fuller Institute, Konstantin Grcic, Zaha Hadid, Marc Newson and Xavier Veilhan. Facing the new ICA building will be Museum Garage and its distinct façades designed by Clavel Arquitectos; J. Mayer H.; K/R, Keenen Riley; Nicolas Buffe; Sagmeister & Walsh and WORK AC.
A ten-story hotel and associated residential building is slated for NE 1st Avenue, designed by Neri & Hu and Studio Gang respectively. New retail offerings on the ground floor of the buildings will bring the total amount of stores in the Design District to more than 200.
Design continue to be a cornerstone of the neighborhood with new showrooms scheduled to join an already notable design community including Armani Casa, Casa Fendi, Holly Hunt, Lladró, Luminaire, The Rug Company and Vitra.
